Year 6 - What We've Been Doing

During their Creative Time, the Year 6 planned and performed a play based on King Arthur. They were responsible for making their own props. They are also planning to build their own models of a castle and have to manage their own budget.

The Year 6 are going on a trip to Kingswood Activity Centre in Hexham. In order to raise funds for the trip, the young entrepreneurs organised and carried out a successful bag pack at Sainburys. The hard workers raised over £700!

"Take Over Day" was very memorable for the Year 6 children. The class took over the running of the school on Friday 7th November. Two of our children, Shane Stanley and Taylor Cusack, became Head Teachers for the day - taking the whole school assembly, rewarding children for good behaviour and meeting the Chair of Governors. Other important school jobs included working in the kitchen, being the caretaker, cleaners and office staff. Some children planned and taught their own lessons, realising that the work that teachers do is very tiring!

Some of our Year 6 children are busy learning their lines for key roles in the Christmas production of Baboushka. Others will be involved in making props and costumes.

During our Literacy lessons the children were involved in writing newspaper reports for the Evening Chronicle. Their finished reports were published and read by over 250,000 readers.

Four of our children travelled to Turkey as part of our Comenius Project. Brighton Avenue has established links with Spain, Turkey and the Czech Republic, together the group are working a project based on water.
