All about Year 2

The Y2 topic for the Summer term is 'Doctor Where: Bensham and Beyond'. We have been learning about the Isle of Struay where Katie Morag lives and the continent of Asia and will celebrate all of our work with a fantastic display explaining life on an island home. We were all able to compare the differences and similarities between the Isle of Struay and Gateshead.

We have directed a roamer (a turtle robot) to move around a map of an island. Everyone enjoyed programming the roamer with sets of instructions and watching the roamer move and change directions. We used a CD-ROM Encyclopedia to locate information about habitats and Google Earth to look at places near and far.

In Science we have been learning about plants and animals. We are recording the growth of our broad bean seeds and check they have the conditions they need to grow. We enjoyed walking around the local area on a nature hunt investigating the habitats of plants and animals. When investigating seed dispersal we made our own "seed parachute" to find out if the size of a seed effects dispersal. We found out that the wind can scatter small seeds and animals can disperse larger seeds.

I really like Mrs Kevan because she's always been nice to me and so has Miss Johnson!! Year 2 has been the best year so far. Thank you to Mrs Kevan

Hi. Last year was the best year of my school time.I was in Yr 6 and it was brilliant!!!!!!!
I went to Turkey with the teachers and I didnt even have to pay. They made my time worthwhile and I personally think that Brighton Avenue is the best school in Gateshead.
C u Lidia

Brighton Avenue is the best in many ways. They benefit you as well as treat you. I know because I used to go there

Yes Lidia, I like Brighton Avenue because it is amazing.
