What a brilliant day we had today, 1st Novemeber, when ExpoChep Natasha visited school to deliver some healthy messages. Many children volunteered to by apprentice chefs and tasters. Did you know that we have 10,000 taste buds which are always changing so we should keep trying different foods?
Leonard helped to make the dressing for the healthy salad by squeezing orange juice through his fingers. A group of tasters tried the salad which included grated parsnip and carrot, leek, red pepper, cucumber, tomato, rocket, celery and strawberries. Many were unsure about this dish.
Craig used his hands to mix the ingredients for burgers. When they were cooking the smell in the hall was delicious. There were plenty of willing volunteers to taste these and the result was a thumbs up by everyone.
Amber, Akeesha, Jason and Callum peeled bananas to go into 'Brenda the Blender' to make a smoothie. Orange juice, natural yoghurt, strawberries and honey were blended together. More volunteers drained the cups when they tasted the delicious liquid. Another thumbs up.
Paola and Ethan took the pepper challenge. They had to taste a red and green pepper then guess which was which with their eyes closed. Both were correct each time. Well done.
Eight willing brave chilren volunteered to take part in a 'Bush Tucker Trial'. They had to chose a cup and taste what was hidden underneath it. Everyone nibbled and ate a selection of fruit and vegetables. Congratulations to all the volunteers.
We had an excellent day and learned many interesting facts which will help us in the future at home. Tha nk you to Natasha for an excellent day.
