Online Competition - Challenge 1

starstarstarstarstar

For the first online competition, we want to see how good Brighton Avenue's pupils are at story writing. Can you complete the ending to this story:

Jake finally got a chance to run with the ball. He took it past one player, then another, he was one on one with the goalkeeper! He was just about to shoot when suddenly...

What has just happened to Jake? Did he score? Did he miss? What could have happened so dramatically?

Write the ending to this story either by hand or on the computer and hand it to your teacher, Closing date is Thursday 9th February 2012 and a winner will be announced on Friday 10th February.

Good Luck!!!

Who would like to go on the best trips every term? How many points did you collect last term? Would you like some more?

As you know, Mrs Pallent and Mrs Dickinson are always looking to hand out their special points to children who do lots of writing at home. But sometimes it can be hard to think of things to write about. Well from now on, there will be a weekly competition on the website for you to take part in and possibly win some fantastic prizes!!!

All you have to do is log on to the website every week and find the competition question. It could be a story, a poem or even a recount of something you have done. You can either type your entry on the computer or write it by hand but either way you will be in with a chance of earning those special points. The best entry may also win a star prize!

Make sure you keep logging onto the website to find out how you can enter the weekly competitions and good luck!

Go Ride Race

On Wednesday 5th October, 10 Year 6 children took part in a cycle race held at Kingsmeadow School. They had to wear their jackets and helmets before setting off on a challenging course. Pedalling like mad, they cycled their way around the course under the watchful eye of Miss Greaves. Times were compared between children from Brighton Avenue and two other schools. Hurrah! Success! Mikolaj and Niamh were awarded gold medals, Ray a silver and Chloe D a bronze. The excited children couldn't wait to show Mrs Sweeney their medals. She was absolutely delighted at the results. Well done to all 10 children who entered the competition.

Gifted and Talented

As part of our link with Kingsmeadow School, children are able to take part in additional lessons to extend their talents. Each half term 3 children are selected to visit Kingsmeadow on Monday afternoons. The first half term focus was drama. Avalon, Max and Bethany were chosen to develop their talents. I am sure you will be impressed with their acting skills in the Christmas production of Scrooge at School and in forthcoming class assemblies.

Katerina, Ray and Mikolaj are currently learning Spanish as this half terms focus is languages. Katerina (Czech) and Mikolaj (Polish) already know two languages as well as all three of them learning french in school. They will definitely be multi-lingual which have huge benefits for communication and holidaying abroad in the future.

In January the focus is science. I will be selected 3 scientifically minded children soon so watch this space.

Reception trip to Saltwell Park

Last term the Reception class went on a trip to Saltwell Park.  We had to put on our high visual jackets so that we would be safe when crossing the roads.

We had a long walk to the park and on the way we saw lots of different plants.

We visited South Dene Nurseries.  We saw lots and lots of different types of plants with flowers, fruit and vegetables growing on them.  We bought some plants to take care of.  Come along to our classroom and we can show you our plants.

After this we had to follow some clues from the Giant because Jack had been naughty and hidden all of the Giants golden coins.  We had fun following the different clues around saltwell park and finding all of the giants golden coins to give back to him.  He was very happy!

We were very hungry after our hunt, so we went and has our dinner in the lovely and warm cafe.

After dinner we went into the park and had lots of fun!  Can you spy Mrs hunt playing on the slide?

Reception Autumn Term 2 Superheroes

Superheroes!

This Term the children have been learning all about Superheroes!  We have listened to a variety of different Superhero stories and talked about their special powers.  We have really enjoyed talking about our favourite Superheroes and even dressing up as them!

We like to work in the Superhero area to save people from the Evil Mr Freeze!

We used our imagination to create our own Superheroes and gave them a special power.  We designed and made our own masks and capes to use for role play and had great fun doing this.

Can you tell what our Special Superhero Powers are?

We have been practising a range of skills this term in all six areas of learning and decided to have a Superhero Day to celebrate all of the Superhero skills we have learnt this term.

We like to work hard and enjoy learning new things.

We made fairy cakes and explored the ingredients by using all of our senses.  We really enjoyed tasting them!

We have voted for our favourite Superheroes and made a tally and pictogram to show our favourite Superheroes.  Come and look at the display outside of our classroom and you can see how hard we have been working.

All about Year 2

The Y2 topic for the Summer term is 'Doctor Where: Bensham and Beyond'. We have been learning about the Isle of Struay where Katie Morag lives and the continent of Asia and will celebrate all of our work with a fantastic display explaining life on an island home. We were all able to compare the differences and similarities between the Isle of Struay and Gateshead.
